Pair arrested in slaying of man found in trunk

Two men were arrested in the slaying of a man found dead in the trunk of a car on state Route 157 near Mount Charleston last week, Las Vegas police said Sunday.

On Friday, homicide detectives arrested Jose Fernandez, 29, on a charge of murder with a deadly weapon.

He was arrested at a residence in the 6300 block of Balch Springs Court, near Centennial Parkway and Simmons Street, in North Las Vegas. Police think that is where the slaying occurred.

On Saturday, detectives of a fugitive task force arrested Willie Rojas, 24, also known as Yeshua Rojas, in Colton, Calif. Las Vegas police did not specify what he would be charged with, but said he will be extradited to Las Vegas to face charges in the slaying.

About 2 p.m. Thursday, Police found the body of 51-year-old Salvador Gonzalez in a Ford Escort about four miles west of U.S. Highway 95.

Gonzalez's family had reported him missing earlier in the week, police said. He was last seen on April 21 driving the Escort in the area of Valley View and Charleston boulevards.

Investigators did not release the cause of death, but said his body had injuries caused by a sharp object.
