Police officer injured in collision near Lamb and Owens
An on-duty Las Vegas police officer suffered moderate injuries Monday night after being involved in a three-car collision.
Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Ramon Denby said the collision occurred about 8:30 p.m. near Lamb Boulevard and Owens Avenue. The officer was northbound on Lamb when his patrol car was struck by a driver attempting a left turn. Denby said that two passengers from another vehicle suffered minor injuries.
The officer, who was pinned inside his car, was rescued by other officers and taken to University Medical Center.
“He’s alert. He’s talking to doctors. They’re attending to him right now,” Denby said.
The crash is the latest in a series of police-involved collisions that have occurred since May 7 when Officer James Manor died while responding to a domestic violence call. Manor was traveling at high speed without flashing lights and siren and hit a pickup truck that had pulled in front of him on Flamingo Road near Rainbow Boulevard.
In late June, an officer suffered non-life threatening injuries after crashing into another vehicle near Decatur Boulevard and Vegas Drive.
Several other collisions involving Las Vegas police vehicles happened in May.
