Rockers invading Hard Rock
July 31, 2009 - 11:00 pm
Mötley Crüe takes busloads of rockers to The Joint at the Hard Rock on Saturday. Crüe singer (and frequent Las Vegas resident) Vince Neil, is apparently going sober.
At least, that's the secondhand word of mouth, says Drowning Pool guitarist C.J. Pierce:
"He's not drinking now, again, supposedly," Pierce tells me (calling Crüe dudes "super cool guys.") "He's not drinking, and he hates it. ... That's what I heard he said."
Pierce's band is opening Crüe Fest 2, along with Godsmack, Theory of a Deadman and Charm City Devils.
Female fans still flash Crüe by the dozens when band members point video cameras at them, Pierce says.
"They just have a ... ton of chicks with them wherever they go," he says, laughs and qualifies:
"You put a camera in front of just about any girl, they turn into a showgirl. They all like to be seen, God bless their hearts."
While here this weekend, Pierce and his wife are renewing vows at an Elvis chapel.
In the rest of my interview with Pierce, in the back of today's Neon, he talks about Drowning Pool's making the cut on President Barack Obama's iPod.
WEEKEND PLANS
Other weekend fare in today's Neon section: Jerry Seinfeld tonight and Saturday at Caesars Palace. The Jonas Brothers with Jordin Sparks Saturday at Mandalay Bay. Rod Stewart on Saturday at MGM. Saliva on Sunday at House of Blues. Clairvoyant Lisa Williams on Sunday at the Hilton. World Hip Hop Dance Championships on Sunday at The Orleans. Jay Leno today and Saturday at The Mirage. Comedian John Caparulo on Saturday at South Point. Glasvegas today at House of Blues.
Tourists: If you came to town to club at Privé at Planet Hollywood, forget it. It just closed after authorities decried drug use, underage shenanigans and other "South Beach"-esque wild things, costing the hotel $500,000 in fines. And strippers are gone from the Rio pool after cops busted hooking there. Who saw that coming?
Fellow dorks: At 8 p.m. Sunday, Seth Green, Breckin Meyer, Matthew Senreich and Gym Class Heroes go to Rancho Crystal Palace Skating Center for Adult Swim's all-ages "Robot Chicken On Wheels Tour" to promote the DVD, "Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II." It's free.
