Scientist wants to name a cute new octopus ‘adorabilis’ — VIDEO

A newly discovered little flapjack octopus species might be named after how cute scientists think it is.

Researches at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute want to call the octopus “Opisthoteuthis adorabilis.” The octopus is the same genus as the pink flapjack octopus in “Finding Nemo.”

“As someone that’s describing the species you get to pick what the specific name is,” Stephanie Bush, a postdoctoral fellow who is working to describe the octopus, told Science Friday. “One of the thoughts I had was making it Opisthoteuthis Adorabilis — because they’re really cute.”

The little octopuses have been collected since the 1990s, Huffington Post reported, but they’ve never really described.
