Sentencing delayed for Royal Saudi Air Force sergeant convicted of raping 13-year-old boy

A sentencing hearing was delayed Wednesday for a Royal Saudi Air Force sergeant convicted of raping a 13-year-old boy in the bathroom of a Circus Circus hotel room Dec. 31, 2012.

And Mazen Alotaibi, 24, is now being represented by high-profile lawyer Dominic Gentile from the law firm Gordon Silver.

District Judge Stefany Miley set a new sentencing date for March 31 to allow Gentile and lawyer Vincent Savarese to review transcripts from the two-week trial. Alotaibi faces 35 years to life in prison.

Savarese confirmed afterwards that the law firm was retained to represent Alotaibi on his appeal. There were “substantial issues” with the case, Savarese said, but wouldn’t go into any detail until he reviewed the transcripts.

In October, Alotaibi was found guilty of one count each of first-degree kidnapping, burglary and coercion and two counts each of sexual assault with a minor under 14 and lewdness with a child under 14.

The jury acquitted Alotaibi of two other counts of lewdness with a child under 14, which were alternative charges to the two sexual assault counts.

Alotaibi remained jailed at the Clark County Detention Center without bail.
