Skiers head to Mount Charleston as season opens

Ski season opened Friday at Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort.
“It’s one of the largest openings we’ve had in the last few years,” said resort spokesman Maria Jose Norero. She said that numbers for Friday’s opening were four times the first day of the season last year.
Norero bragged that they were “the only resort in the area with 100 percent” of their lifts and runs open, and as the opening approached, a new program was unveiled to offer “coaching” services to skiers.
Workers at the resort spent the week moving and arranging snow that fell during last week’s snow to make it safe for patrons. Thursday was spent making a fresh layer with their snow machines.
The roads are clear and the weather is expected to be calm throughout the weekend.
