Some drivers not limited to the track
February 23, 2011 - 2:06 am
Two-time Daytona 500 winner Michael Waltrip and the legendary race's youngest winner, Trevor Bayne, will be performing on different stages during NASCAR Weekend.
Waltrip will be headlining at The Mirage, teaming up with comedians Henry Cho and Jon Reep on "The Michael Waltrip Comedy Garage."
They will be in the Terry Fator Theatre March 4-5, at 10 p.m. Tickets range from $29.99 to $49.99.
Bayne won the Daytona 500 on Sunday, one day after his 20th birthday in just his second Sprint Cup start.
In Las Vegas, he will be too young to gamble, but he will be racing in the March 5 Sam's Town 300 and the March 6 Kobalt Tools 400. He will be among a dozen drivers signing autographs in the Neon Garage at the speedway on March 3, from 1:30-2:30 p.m.
Waltrip was winless in 462 NASCAR races before he won his first Daytona 500, in 2001, the same race that claimed the life of NASCAR icon Dale Earnhardt.
Cho has appeared on Comedy Central and in "Material Girls" opposite Hilary Duff.
Reep was the season 5 winner of "Last Comic Standing" and had his own special on Comedy Central. He's known as the redheaded hillbilly "Hemi guy," the popular Dodge Ram commercial in which he leans out of a beat-up car and asks, "That thing gotta Hemi?"
Waltrip won't be the only NASCAR veteran making an appearance in Las Vegas. Carl Edwards, who won the big race in Las Vegas in 2008, will be experiencing a whole new rush on Thursday. He's jumping off the Stratosphere at 2 p.m. He's taking the plunge on the SkyJump, a bungee dive from the 108th floor.
Also taking the leap will be Las Vegan Jamie Little, a pit reporter on the NASCAR circuit. She will be working the Nationwide race.
