Suspect denies killing his girlfriend

A man arrested in the slaying of his girlfriend had argued with her early Sunday morning before setting her apartment on fire, his arrest report said.

Michael Treadwell, 28, was arrested on charges of murder and first-degree arson after firefighters found the body of Anais Plant, 26, in her burned-out apartment, the report said.

Neighbors told Las Vegas police they heard a couple arguing about 2 a.m. inside an apartment at 1701 N. J St., near H Street and Owens Avenue. Later, after Treadwell loaded clothes and other items into his SUV and left, neighbors noticed smoke coming from the apartment.

In an interview with police, Treadwell denied killing Plant. He told police they had been arguing, and he said he was moving out, the report said.

He took some clothes and went to a friend's house. His parents called him and told him he was a suspect .

According to the report, Plant and Treadwell were involved in a domestic violence incident about a week earlier.

In the Oct. 29 incident, North Las Vegas police arrested Treadwell after a physical altercation at the Lucky Club, officer Chrissie Coon said.
