The University of Nevada, Las Vegas now has a permanent presence at the College of Southern Nevada to help aspiring Rebels.
CSN President Michael Richards and UNLV President Neal Smatresk unveiled the UNLV/CSN Transfer Partnership on Jan. 29 at the CSN Charleston campus.
The partnership, which includes housing two full-time UNLV transition advisers within CSN Transfer Centers, will improve the transfer experience and provide CSN students with additional support as they plan the move from the two-year college to the four-year university.
"CSN and UNLV are committed to supporting each other as we work to help more Nevadans obtain a college degree," said CSN Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Darren Divine. "This partnership means our students will have more support and more encouragement as they continue on and achieve their bachelor's and beyond."
"This joint effort is a concrete manifestation of our commitment to student success in Nevada," said UNLV Executive Vice President and Provost John White. "Navigating the transition from community college to university can be difficult, and the transfer office will provide significant assistance for students planning that transition. We also hope it will inspire others whose goals did not include a four-year degree to think bigger."
UNLV transition advisers Janet Hollinger and Eric Lee will have offices at CSN Transfer Centers on the CSN Cheyenne and Charleston campuses, respectively. Both will rotate to the CSN Henderson campus.
"I'm very excited about this new venture," Hollinger said. "Yes, it greatly benefits both schools, but most importantly, we can assist those students that wish to achieve their goal of a college degree, and help them get two."
The principal role of the UNLV advisers will be to work with CSN students to:
n Complete transfer degrees;
n Provide for a seamless transfer to UNLV;
n Arrange for tours and/or orientations for CSN students to UNLV campus; and
n Participate in the CSN curriculum and general education advisory committee.
"The CSN and UNLV partnership in this endeavor is an incredible opportunity to provide much-needed guidance to students during a very critical academic period," Lee said. "I am here to make sure that the students are set up for success and are well-equipped for their transition to UNLV."
