Before becoming an assemblyman, Pat Hickey grew up Catholic then joined the Unification Church, for which he served as a spokesman. His autobiography, "Tahoe Boy," even discusses his fishing trips with the Rev. Sun Myung Moon.
So it's no surprise that the Reno Republican would find a parallel between the Bible and the 76th legislative session.
In Hickey's weekly newsletter, Gov. Brian Sandoval is Moses, "leading the Israelites (state legislators) into the promised land of a better Nevada."
The Democrats, meanwhile, are angling for a good smiting.
As Hickey writes: "I hope we don't end up worshiping at the feet of gold calves built by union officials that have their own list of commandments that lawmakers are expected to adhere to."

Higher education Chancellor Dan Klaich was tasked with updating the governing board on the latest legislative action affecting the system's budget.
He said there have been hearings, new economic numbers, a change to the governor's proposed budget, and the release of the Democrats' spending plan. But nothing budget-related has actually, you know, been voted on or signed into law.
Apologizing to Charles Dickens ahead of time, Klaich said, "Since we last met, much has occurred and nothing has occurred."

At a recent meeting, County Commissioner Tom Collins spoke against pay cuts for employees. And he said he didn't care for commissioners taking cuts either, because his pockets were empty.
"Maybe I should sue the county," Collins said, grinning at Commissioner Steve Sisolak. "Just kidding."
He was referring to Sisolak winning more than $23 million in a lawsuit over height restrictions on land he owned in a low-fly zone.
