Government shutdown would be a nonevent

The possible government shutdown is receiving the usual “end of civilization” treatment. History shows us that it would be a nonevent. Only nonessential personnel will be told not to report. The obvious question: Why does our government have nonessential personnel? Nobody knows.

Of course, the nonessential personnel will receive back pay when they return. This will be a holiday vacation with pay. Zero dollars will be saved.
