LETTER: Latest Senate spending package will reduce the deficit?

The just-passed $740 billion “Inflation Reduction Act” contains, among other expenditures, $300 billion for deficit reduction. The national debt is now approximately $30 trillion — or $30,000 billion. How is $300 billion going to help deficit reduction? My arithmetic tells me that is 1/100th of 1 percent. Who is kidding whom?
