Nevada Republican trying to nullify votes in misguided recall efforts

When I was in school, we were taught that recall elections were intended to remove elected officials due to malfeasance of office. Now, Republicans want to recall three state senators because they don’t like how they vote or with whom they caucus. They want to get rid of these incumbents so they can control the Senate before the next election.

Don’t take my word for this, read Victor Joecks’ Sunday column in the Review-Journal, “Three reasons for recalling Woodhouse, Cannizzaro”). Those reasons:

■ They voted to raise property taxes.

■ Tried to rename McCarran International Airport after Harry Reid.

■ Tried to make Nevada a “sanctuary state.”

■ Tried to prevent guns from being allowed in public libraries.

We need to stop this ill-thought-out GOP recall of three dedicated women who stand on their own and put forward their own ideas. This is a GOP attempt to nullify our votes. The Republicans should be sent a message that tricks like this don’t work.
