51s slam Chihuahuas for 15th victory in past 16 games

Brooks Conrad hit a grand slam and totaled five RBIs, and Brandon Allen and Darrell Ceciliani also homered to power the 51s to an 11-4 win over the El Paso Chihuahuas in a Pacific Coast League game Saturday in El Paso, Texas.

The 51s have won 15 of their past 16 games.

Ceciliani’s solo shot in the third inning, his fifth homer of the season, opened the scoring, and Allen followed Conrad’s run-scoring fielder’s choice with a three-run shot in the fourth.

Conrad’s slam, his first homer with Las Vegas (21-9), came after Alex Castellanos’ RBI single in the fifth and put the 51s up 10-0.

Allen also had a double and a single, and Ceciliani, Castellanos and Danny Muno had two hits each for Las Vegas, which had a 12-11 edge in hits.

Cody Decker went 4-for-5 with a double for the Chihuahuas (18-12), who left 10 runners on base.

51s starter Duane Below held El Paso to one run on six hits and one walk and struck out four in 4 2/3 innings. John Church (2-1), the first of three Las Vegas relievers, worked 2 1/3 one-hit innings to get the win. He struck out three.

El Paso starter Daniel McCutchen (0-2) gave up five runs on five hits and two walks and struck out five in four innings. Five Chihuahuas pitchers totaled 12 strikeouts.
