Fresno stops 51s’ win streak at seven with 11-4 victory

Tony Kemp, Jonathan Villar and Matt Duffy had three hits apiece, and the trio combined to drive in seven runs to carry the Fresno Grizzlies to an 11-4 win over the 51s in a battle of Pacific Coast League division leaders Thursday in Fresno, Calif.
The loss ended a seven-game win streak by Las Vegas (38-30), leader of the Pacific South Division.
Kemp, Villar and Duffy — the top three batters in the Grizzlies’ lineup — each contributed a hit and combined for four RBIs during Fresno’s seven-run second inning that knocked out 51s starter Tyler Pill (2-4).
Villar had a two-run triple and Robbie Grossman a two-run single in the second. Duffy hit a two-run homer in the sixth.
Pill was charged with seven runs on eight hits and two walks in 1 2/3 innings.
Grizzlies starter Brady Rodgers (5-3) held Las Vegas to one run — Kirk Nieuwenhuis’ leadoff home run in the second — on three hits and no walks and struck out five in five innings.
Grossman and Alex Presley had two hits apiece for Fresno (41-26), the Pacific North Division leader.
Nieuwenhuis had a triple, and Danny Muno went 3-for-4 with a double.
