Futures wagers would pay bettor $337.5K if Jaguars win Super Bowl

A pair of CG Technology and William Hill sports book bettors believed the Jaguars would win Super Bowl LII long before Jacksonville cornerback Jalen Ramsey predicted they would.

On Feb. 10, 2017 — five days after the New England Patriots’ 34-28 overtime win over the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI — a William Hill bettor wagered $990 on Jacksonville at 100-1 odds to win Super Bowl LII. The bettor is two wins away from winning $99,000.

In May, a CG Technology bettor made three futures wagers on the Jaguars to win the Super Bowl for a total of $3,200 to win $337,500. Using his mobile app, the gambler bet $700 at 125-1 odds on May 12 and then wagered $1,500 at 100-1 odds and $1,000 at 100-1 odds on May 20.

“Despite that, the Jaguars are the best team for us because there were so few bets on them,” CG Technology sports book director Jason Simbal said. “We’re rooting for them.”

William Hill also will win on Jacksonville and every other team in its Super Bowl futures.

The Westgate sports book took $11,000 in futures wagers on Jacksonville at 25-1 on Jan. 6, the day before the Jaguars beat the Buffalo Bills 10-3 in their wild-card playoff game. Those bets would net $275,000 if the Jaguars won the Super Bowl, but manager Ed Salmons said that’s still the best-case scenario for the Westgate.

“We do really well on all the teams, but Jacksonville is, by far, our best team,” he said.

The Jaguars are 8½-point underdogs to the Patriots in Sunday’s AFC championship game at New England, which is minus-420 on the money line (Jacksonville is plus-340).

William Hill, which operates 108 sports books in Nevada, took a $53,700 futures bet on the Patriots at plus-280 on Sept. 7 that would pay $150,360. It took a $50,000 wager on New England at 3-1 on Sept. 21.

CG Technology, which has locations at the M Resort, the Palms and The Venetian, to name a few, took a $7,000 bet on the Patriots at 11-2 odds the day after their Super Bowl LI win. It took a $30,000 wager on New England at 9-5 odds Jan. 11, the day before it whipped the Tennessee Titans 35-14 in their divisional playoff game.

The largest futures liability CG took on the Minnesota Vikings was an $8,000 bet at 10-1 odds. The largest it took on the Philadelphia Eagles was a $1,000 wager at 50-1 odds that was placed before the season started.
