Patriots fall to 4-point favorites over Eagles in Super Bowl LII

The line keeps dropping for Super Bowl LII.

The Patriots opened as high as 6½-point favorites over the Eagles at Wynn Las Vegas on Jan. 21 but dropped to as low as minus 4 (minus 120) Friday at Boyd Gaming.

The Westgate sports book became the second shop to move the number to 4 (minus 110) Monday morning and Boyd Gaming followed suit by moving the price to 4 (minus 110).

New England is a 4½-point favorite at every other Las Vegas sports book besides the Golden Nugget, which still had it at 5 on Monday.

A Westgate bettor made a limit wager of at least $50,000 on Philadelphia getting 4½ points Sunday night. That helped prompt the move to 4.

“It was that and the person that bet it is someone we respect,” Westgate sports book manager Ed Salmons said. “We think that the game’s going to go to 3½. We’re just searching for a good number to write two-way business on this game. We’ll probably find it at 3½.

“Right now, there’s more Eagles money than Patriots, but the public hasn’t really arrived yet. It’s still so early in the process, but I think we’ll see Patriots money. I’d be shocked if we don’t.”

Three times as much money has been bet on Philadelphia ATS at the Westgate and at the Caesars Palace sports book, and Station Casinos and Wynn Las Vegas also are heavy on the Eagles. Caesars has taken seven times as many tickets on Philadelphia on the money line.

Wynn Las Vegas sports book director Johnny Avello said he’s taken multiple six-figure wagers on the Eagles.

“There’s been some big ones,” he said Monday afternoon. “Over the last 48 hours, there’s been some Patriots money, $50,000 bets and stuff like that. We need that, but we’re still long on the Eagles.

“The whole first week was Eagles money. Everybody liked the Eagles.”

The total has held steady at 48.

“The total is a non-issue right now,” Avello said.
