Broncos player Aqib Talib shot, released from hospital

Denver Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib was shot in the leg early Sunday morning and released from a Dallas hospital later in the day, according to multiple reports.

USA Today confirmed that Talib was released from the Dallas Medical City Hospital emergency room but could not verify the nature of Talib’s visit there.

Broncos vice president of public relations Patrick Smyth confirmed Talib was shot.

“We’ve spoken with Aqib Talib, who is being treated at a Dallas hospital for a gunshot wound to his leg. He’s OK & we’re gathering more info,” Smyth said on his Twitter account.

The Dallas Morning News reported that the shooting happened at 2:45 a.m. at a strip club, citing Dallas police.

WFAA-TV in Dallas reported that Talib was one of three people shot at the V Live Club early Sunday morning.

The 30-year-old Talib, a three-time Pro Bowl honoree, has been involved in several incidents off the field during his career.

An altercation with a cab driver in 2009 led to his arrest on sample battery charges in St. Petersburg, Fla., and a one-game NFL suspension for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ season opener in 2010.

A felony charge in 2011 against Talib and his mother for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after a confrontation with a boyfriend of Talib’s sister was later dropped.

The Broncos are scheduled to travel to the White House to be honored Monday for their Super Bowl 50 victory. It’s unknown whether Talib will accompany the team.

Talib played in 15 regular-season games for the Broncos last season and had 45 tackles, three interceptions and two touchdowns. In 107 career NFL games with the Buccaneers, New England Patriots and Broncos, he has 350 tackles and 30 interceptions.
