Madison Bumgarner is at it again.
After the Giants left-hander almost single-handedly carried San Francisco to its third World Series title in five years last season, the World Series Most Valuable Player again took matters into his own hands in Thursday’s 4-0 win over the rival Los Angeles Dodgers.
Not only did Bumgarner toss 6 1/3 scoreless innings to win his duel with Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw, but “Mad Bum” added insult to injury by crushing a solo home run off the reigning National League Most Valuable Player and Cy Young Award winner.
Bumgarner (5-2) belted the first pitch he saw from Kershaw with two outs in the third inning 10 rows deep into the left field bleachers — estimated at 415 feet — for his first homer of the season and seventh of his career.
Bumgarner’s last homer came off of Zack Greinke on Sept. 23 at Dodger Stadium.
“He’s the best pitcher in baseball,” the humble Bumgarner said of Kershaw. “To be able to run into one is pretty special.”
