Davies, Zylstra lift BYU past Portland

PROVO, Utah -- Brandon Davies scored 25 points, and Brock Zylstra had 20 points and nine rebounds to lead Brigham Young to a 76-66 victory over Portland on Saturday.

Charles Abouo added 16 points for the Cougars (24-7, 12-4 West Coast Conference), who played without leading scorer Noah Hartsock (sore left knee). BYU clinched the No. 3 seed in this week's WCC tournament at Orleans Arena and receives a bye to the quarterfinals.

Ryan Nicholas had 19 points and 14 rebounds and Tanner Riley 16 points for the Pilots (6-23, 3-13), who will be the eighth seed. Portland plays No. 9 seed Santa Clara in Wednesday's opening-round game.

The Cougars scored the game's first eight points and never trailed. The Pilots got within 67-61 with 3:53 left but then went scoreless for almost two minutes.

■ UNR 79, Fresno State 76 -- At Fresno, Calif., Olek Czyz had 25 points and 11 rebounds and Dario Hunt 20 points and 15 rebounds as the Wolf Pack edged the Bulldogs in triple overtime.

Czyz's putback with 55.3 seconds left put UNR (23-5, 11-1 Western Athletic Conference) ahead to stay as the Wolf Pack clinched a share of their sixth regular-season WAC title.

Kevin Foster scored a career-high 20 points for Fresno State (13-17, 3-9).

Kevin Olekaibe, a Cimarron-Memorial product, had 11 points for the Bulldogs, who inbounded the ball with 1.5 seconds left but didn't get off a shot before the final buzzer.

The game featured 19 ties and 32 lead changes. Neither team led by more than six points.
