UNLV put on the full uniform on Tuesday night when the Rebels practiced at Sam Boyd Stadium. They usually practice in the morning at Rebel Park on campus.
Sophomore wide receiver Randal Grimes signed with Southern California in 2017 out of Desert Pines High School. He transferred to UNLV on July 1.
The junior has missed 10 starts in the past two seasons because of injures, and the Rebels went 1-6 in the games he missed last season with a toe injury.
UNLV junior Charles Williams has shown he has the ability to be the No. 1 running back. He will go into training camp as the Rebels’ starter.
Max Gilliam and Kenyon Oblad are competing to be UNLV’s backup quarterback. No quarterback has started every Rebels game in a season since Jon Denton in 1996.
UNLV senior guard Zack Singer hopes the NCAA will approve a sixth season of eligibility. He has dealt with several injuries since transferring from Kent State in 2015.
UNLV hopes an influx of defensive players will make a big difference on that side of the football. The Rebels, who opened spring practices Monday morning, have struggled defensively for many years.
UNLV football coach Tony Sanchez announced his early signing class Wednesday. The Rebels signed 15 players, 11 of whom will enroll in January and go through spring practices.

UNLV’s football team painted the Fremont Cannon red on Monday morning at the student union. The Rebels claimed the trophy by defeating UNR 34-29 on Saturday night at Sam Boyd Stadium.
UNLV’s Javin White made two critical interceptions in the fourth quarter of the Rebels’ 34-29 victory over UNR at Sam Boyd Stadium. The Rebels have beaten UNR two of the past four years.
UNLV quarterback Armani Rogers accounted for five touchdowns, including the winning 3-yard rush with 2:34 left, to give the Rebels a 34-29 victory over UNR. The Fremont Cannon will be painted red.
UNLV plays UNR at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Sam Boyd Stadium. The teams play for the Fremont Cannon and state bragging rights.
Cal State Fullerton and Long Beach State dropped football in the early 1990s because of financial considerations. UNLV, however, remains committed to the sport.
