Was Katy Perry riding the MGM lion during halftime?

Dishing up some Super Bowl notes:

BEST TIMING: Las Vegans Lynn and Bill Weidner were taking an elevator up to their Super Bowl suite at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., when there he was: Paul McCartney. I asked Lynn if she said hello. “No. Just smiled. Was definitely a bit starstruck.” …

How did that MGM Grand-like lion ridden by Katy Perry get by the NFL’s anti-Vegas censors? I’d by lyin’ if I wasn’t hoping she’d go rogue and break into “Waking Up in Vegas.” …

Big winners over the weekend? Taxi cab drivers who pocketed between $50 and $70 per passenger delivered to the strip clubs. …

Keno, the Nevada SPCA’s rescue dog, worked his tail off in the Animal Planet’s “Puppy Bowl” on Sunday. He scored back-to-back touchdowns but Team Fluff was too soft defensively and lost, 87-49, to Team Ruff. …

MISSED BY THIS MUCH: The winner of the R-J’s Super Bowl opinion poll was Joe D’Amico of Aasiwins.com, who beat 49 others by coming closest to New England’s 28-24 win. He had 27-24. Had Seattle scored a touchdown at the end, I would have had the exact score of 31-28, although I had predicted it in overtime.

THE SHOCKER: No Johnny Manziel sightings in Las Vegas. Or even on Twitter. …

Obligatory Manziel joke, on Twitter: “Katy Perry has already done more on an NFL field than Johnny Manziel.” — Eric Furniss.

THE SCENE AND HEARD

Bob Anderson never lost that old-school work ethic. He showed up at Whittlesea-Bell Transportation, one of the city’s largest cab and limo companies on Wednesday, passed out cookies and jumped on a picnic table and invited the cabbies to come see a free show. The longtime vocal impressionist opened “Sinatra: The Man, The Music” last weekend at The Palazzo. Anderson also entertained the large gathering with snippets of Frank Sinatra’s hits….

The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, who make their home at Nellis Air Force Base, performed the traditional flyover before the start of the Super Bowl on Sunday.
