German soccer player Mesut Ozil has announced on Wednesday that he will pay for 23 children’s surgeries in Brazil — the same amount of players on the German men’s soccer team.
According to Fox Soccer, Ozil originally promised to pay for 11 surgeries back in May prior to the World Cup, but has now increased that number to 23.
Ozil posted a Facebook post on Wednesday telling fans the news.
“Dear fans, prior to the #WorldCup I supported the surgery of eleven sick children. Since the victory of the #World Cup is not only due to eleven players but to our whole team, I will now raise the number to 23. This is my personal thank-you for the hospitality of the people of Brazil.”
