Harrisons fuel Gators’ season-opening victory

The opening day of the high school baseball season was pretty special for the Harrison family.

Senior Matt Harrison fired a no-hitter and freshman Brett Harrison homered in his first varsity at-bat to lead Green Valley to 2-0 home win over Rancho on Thursday.

Matt Harrison struck out four, walked one and hit two batters in his first no-hitter.

"I think that's actually the first time," Matt Harrison said. "It's pretty fun. I didn't even realize until I was going out for that last inning."

Harrison, who has signed to play at North Carolina, started his final season in style.

"I never really thought about being a senior until it just kind of hit me right before the game started," he said. "I was like, 'This is it, better go out and have fun.' It just goes to show you that going out and relaxing pays off."

Brett Harrison led off the bottom of the first with a solo homer to left-center.

"It was awesome," Matt Harrison said of his younger brother's homer. "It was kind of a surreal feeling. I get to play with Brett now and he walks up and hits a home run.
