If you’re a soccer fan, this Abby Wambach commercial will make you sob

United States Women's soccer forward Abby Wambach will step foot on the pitch tonight for one last time as the U.S. Women's National Team plays its final World Cup Victory Tour game. Then, she'll hang up her cleats.

Wambach announced her retirement on Oct. 27 saying she had decided to bring her soccer career to an end.

And if that announcement didn't make U.S. soccer fans sob, Gatorade's new commercial titled "Forget Me" released Wednesday, featuring the soccer star, will.

The commerical shows Wambach sitting in a locker room emotionally reflecting on her career, clearing out her U.S. Women's National Team locker and then throwing her nameplate in the trash as she exits.

"Forget me. Forget my number, forget my name, forget I ever existed," Wambach says in the commercial. "Forget the medals won, the records broken and the sacrifices made. I want to leave a legacy where the ball keeps rolling forward. Where the next generation accomplishes things so great that I am no longer remembered. So, forget me. Because the day I'm forgotten is the day we will succeed."

Wambach, the all-time leading goal scorer in international soccer, has tallied 184 goals in 253 matches for the USWNT.

Tonight's match against China kicks off at 5 p.m. PST at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.
