Here’s a look at the UFC on Fox 17 matchups

A breakdown of the fights on the main card of UFC on Fox 17 today at Amway Center in Orlando, Fla.:

Rafael dos Anjos (24-7) vs. Donald Cerrone (28-6, 1 No Contest)

CLASS: For Dos Anjos's lightweight title

LINE: Dos Anjos -200

STORYLINE: A rematch of a 2013 fight that propelled both fighters to the top of the division. Dos Anjos took a unanimous decision in that fight and has gone 4-1 since, culminating in taking the belt from Anthony Pettis in March. Cerrone used the setback against dos Anjos to fuel an 8-fight winning streak that has earned him his first UFC title shot. In losing the first meeting, Cerrone was once again haunted by a slow start. It has been an affliction that has plagued his career, particularly in his biggest fights. On the positive side, he settled into that bout and found success in the third and final round. This fight is scheduled for five rounds, so Cerrone will have more time if the action plays out the same way. A better plan would be to avoid a bad start, though Cerrone joked Thursday that probably won't happen. The key for the challenger will be to keep the fight out of boxing distance where dos Anjos is just so good. Cerrone will look to clinch where he can effectively use his knees or back off to a distance where he can use his kicks. He may even mix in a takedown or two. Cerrone is on the best run of his career and works with some of the best strategists in the sport. He will find a way to win the later rounds.

PICK: Cerrone by decision

Junior dos Santos (17-3) vs. Alistair Overeem (39-14, 1 NC)

CLASS: Heavyweight

LINE: Dos Santos -325

STORYLINE: There's not a whole lot of mystery to this matchup. Overeem is one of the best kickboxers in mixed martial arts, while dos Santos is a highly-skilled traditional boxer. While they have different approaches, both will look to take the center of the cage and swing for the fences. Overeem, however, has a questionable chin that may not be up for a firefight. While he has won his last two fights, he has been knocked out in three of his last six bouts. The stakes are high for whoever survives as the winner of this one will be in prime position to challenge for the heavyweight title next. There is probably value at the betting window on Overeem, but dos Santos has the superior resume and chin.

PICK: Dos Santos by second-round knockout

Michael Johnson (17-9) vs. Nate Diaz (18-10)

CLASS: Lightweight

LINE: Johnson -475

STORYLINE: Johnson is thrilled to be taking on someone he believes will be willing to fight him. He has complained over his last few bouts about opponents who backpedal and just look for takedowns to avoid what he feels is his superior striking skills. If Johnson wants a brawl, he will probably get it. Diaz loves to mix it up. In fact, the festivities nearly got started early as Johnson and Diaz were involved in a skirmish at the Hyatt Regency on Friday afternoon. Diaz would probably be best served by trying to take Johnson down and try to use his jiu-jitsu. Like his brother Nick, however, Diaz at times is more about fighting than winning. That's what makes them immensely popular and fun to watch, but it can also be a hindrance to success. Johnson will get back on track after losing a very controversial decision to Beneil Dariush in August to snap a four-fight winning streak.

PICK: Johnson by decision

Randa Markos (5-3) vs. Karolina Kowalkiewicz (7-0)

CLASS: Women's strawweight

LINE: Markos -185

STORYLINE: The so-called octagon jitters most fighters feel in their UFC debut could be magnified for Kowalkiewicz, who will do it while kicking off a Fox broadcast. If she's hesitant at all, Markos will take full advantage. Markos is an aggressive grappler whose biggest strength is her ability to keep constant pressure on her opponent. This will also be her first fight since quitting her job to move to Montreal in order to train full-time at Georges St. Pierre's gym. That will undoubtedly help channel some of that aggression in the proper direction. It will be a big step up for Kowalkiewicz, who has won her last two fights by split decision.

PICK: Markos by second-round submission
