UFC middleweight contender Romero flagged for potential doping violation

Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight contender Yoel Romero has been notified of a potential violation of the organization's Anti-Doping Policy by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, the UFC announced in a statement Tuesday afternoon.

According to a news release posted on the UFC's website, Romero's potential violation stems from an out-of-competition test administered by USADA.

Romero, a silver-medal winning wrestler for Cuba in 2000, was believed to be in line for a potential title fight against champion Luke Rockhold after winning a split decision over Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza at UFC 194 in Las Vegas last month.

"USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case involving Romero," the statement read. "Additional information will be provided at the appropriate time as the process moves forward."

Romero, 38, has won all seven fights since signing with the UFC in 2013.
