Mountain Ridge loses to Park View Little League of Chula Vista, Calif. 1-0

SAN BERNARDINO — It wasn’t meant to be this time for Mountain Ridge.

Two years after a team from the Las Vegas-based league became the first in state history to make the Little League World Series, its latest group of All-Stars fell a game short of reaching historic Lamade Stadium in Williamsport, Pa.

Mountain Ridge fell to Park View Little League of Chula Vista, Calif. 1-0 on Saturday night in the West Regional final before an estimated 12,000 at Houghton Stadium and a nationally televised audience.

Park View pitcher Victor Lizarraga had a no-hitter through five innings, but Hunter Kublick led off the sixth with a single for Mountain Ridge.

Then, pinch-runner Luke Miles reached second on a passed ball but was stranded when Lizarraga struck out Mountain Ridge standout Garrett Cutting to end the game.

It was Lizarraga’s 13th strikeout.

Mountain Ridge lost its opening game of the regional 8-0 to Hawaii last Sunday, but then won three straight before losing to the team representing perennial power Southern California.

Park View scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the fourth inning, aided by two of Mountain Ridge’s four errors.
