Nevada fishing report, Sept. 27, 2017

LAKE MEAD — Boaters are taking striped bass from deep water with jigging techniques. Live shad are catching stripers as well. You can find them in the shallows. Try the back of Las Vegas Wash. Black bass are hitting top-water lures, and anglers are finding good action for the fish outside of Callville Bay. Catfish are taking anchovies fished near the bottom. Sunrise remains the most productive time of day.

LAKE MOHAVE — Willow Beach continues to give up large stripers. One lucky angler recently weighed in a 14-pound striped bass he caught with an AC Plug. The fishing pier at Willow Beach has been a good spot for catfish and trout as well as stripers. Anchovies will work for catfish as well as striped bass. The Willow Beach National Fish Hatchery plants rainbow trout each Friday. Trout will take a variety of small spinners and other lures, PowerBait and flies. For black bass work the coves north and south of Cottonwood Cove.

LAUGHLIN — Striped bass fishing is good below Davis Dam. Fish the deeper water for large fish. Seasonal trout plants have begun below the dam. PowerBait, spinners, or caddis fly patterns will catch the fish. Don’t forget good old fashioned worms. The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) is reminding anglers that spear fishing is prohibited south of Cottonwood Cove.

LAS VEGAS URBAN PONDS — NDOW planted channel catfish in each of the urban ponds the week of Sept. 18. The last catfish plant of the season is scheduled for mid-October. With cooling temperatures the bluegill and bass action is slow during the early morning hours, but fishing should pick up by mid-morning.

KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA — Trout action has improved with the arrival of cooler overnight and daytime temperatures. The fish are taking a variety of spinners and spoons. Bait anglers have found good fishing off the dams with PowerBait or night crawlers.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR — Overnight temperatures have been dropping below the freezing mark but are expected to warm up for the weekend. The park received 5 inches of snow on Saturday. Cold weather has improved the action for rainbow and tiger trout while brown trout are heading into spawning season. The trout have been taking PowerBait in the usual colors — orange, green or rainbow – and are averaging between 10 and 13 inches in length.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR — Trout fishing off the dam has picked up this week. The fish are taking a variety of small spinners along with PowerBait in orange, green or rainbow colorations.

UPCOMING EVENTS — Saturday, Sept. 30, is “National Public Lands Day” across the country. NDOW will take part in an event from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m at the Colorado River Heritage Greenway Park in Laughlin.
