New York Rangers sign first female player to one-day contract — VIDEO

The New York Rangers partnered with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to sign 8-year-old Kayleigh Petersen to a special one-day contract for their "Garden of Dreams Night" at Madison Square Garden, Inside Edition reports.

Kayleigh, who was diagnosed with Tyrosinemia Type 1, a condition that forced her to undergo a liver transplant, became the first female player in the 89-year history of the New York Rangers organization.

“She has tremendous skills and we felt her strength and character are through the roof,” said Adam Graves of the Rangers Hockey Operations Department. “We are proud and honored to have her as a part of the Rangers organization.”
