Ohio city to change name to support Ohio State
With the College Football Playoff National Championship between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Oregon Ducks right around the corner, the city of Oregon, Ohio, has announced it will change its name to fully support the Buckeyes on game day.
Two people from the city of Oregon, north of Columbus, where the campus of OSU sits, proposed the name change idea on Jan. 2 via a change.org petition, according to the Toledo Free Press.
And once the city got wind of the idea, they sprang into action.
“We’ve heard about (the petition). We’ve gotten calls. We’re going to do something with it,” Oregon City Administrator Michael Beazley told the Toledo Free Press.
The temporary name that the city will go by on Jan. 12 is yet to be determined, but the city says it will issue a proclamation on Monday for the name change.
The petition also asks that the local high school — Clay High School — change its school colors, which are green and gold, the same as the Oregon Ducks, for game day.
