Pacquiao posts photo after surgery on Instagram
One day after undergoing surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder, Manny Pacquiao took to Instagram to let his fans know he’s doing OK.
With this photo, Pacquiao wrote: “Thank you Lord for the successful surgery in my right shoulder. Thank you babe for being there beside me. Thank you to my Dr. Neal Ellatrache and his group for taking care of me. God is great!”
The surgery was performed Wednesday in Los Angeles by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who said afterward that he expects Pacquiao to fully recover and resume his boxing career next year. He is expected to need eight to 10 months to recover.
Pacquiao, 36, suffered the injury during training for his world title fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. on Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden and reinjured it during the 12-round bout, which he lost by unanimous decision.
The injury was disclosed after the fight. The Pacquiao camp said the fighter hurt the shoulder in early April and had been receiving several anti-inflammatory drugs. He was hoping to receive a shot of Toradol, an anti-inflammatory, before entering the ring Saturday. But the Nevada Athletic Commission said he could not, stating that his prefight medical questionnaire indicated he wasn’t hurt.
The commission has since referred the incident to the attorney general’s office to determine if Pacquiao perjured himself on his medical forms.
Since hearing the news that Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 knockouts) indeed did fight him with basically one arm, Mayweather (48-0, 26 KOs) said he would consider giving him a rematch.
