Successful hunts begin with planning

Preliminary results of Nevada’s 2013 big game tag draw have been available online since Friday, and final results will be available in another couple of weeks. Unfortunately, while some of my friends are celebrating the draw results with tags for critters such as bighorn sheep, deer, elk or antelope, things in the Nielsen household are little more subdued.

FISHING REPORT

■ LAKE MEAD — Small stripers are providing anglers with good fishing, but larger fish have been tough to find. Cut baits and swim baits have proven successful in Government Wash, Crawdad Cove and 33 Hole. The catfish bite has been good in the Vegas Wash area and near Stewarts Point, also using cut baits.

The decision surely has saved Jamie Hoffmann money on his dental bills, but aside from that, the 51s outfielder still isn’t entirely sure why he chose to pursue a career in professional baseball instead of hockey.
