Rebels’ Dejean-Jones suspended for conduct detrimental to team

Junior guard Bryce Dejean-Jones has been suspended from the UNLV basketball team through Saturday for conduct detrimental to the team, coach Dave Rice announced Thursday in a news release issued by the school.

Dejean-Jones, the team’s leading scorer at 13.4 points per game, will not travel to Reno for the Rebels’ regular-season finale against UNR.

Rice also said junior forward Roscoe Smith, the team’s leading rebounder, will miss his second consecutive game while recovering from a concussion. Smith might be able to return to practice Monday.

Visibly upset after UNLV’s 73-64 loss to No. 10 San Diego State on Wednesday night, Dejean-Jones appeared to shove aside teammate Jelan Kendrick and walked off the court without shaking hands with the Aztecs. He was seen leaving the Thomas & Mack Center about 15 minutes after the game.

Dejean-Jones shot 1-for-7 from the field and scored seven points in 21 minutes. He has started 26 games for the Rebels (19-11, 10-7 Mountain West).

The UNLV-UNR winner will get the No. 3 seed in next week’s conference tournament at the Thomas & Mack.
