Registration for Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon on pace with last year

Less than four months away from the Rock’n’Roll Marathon Series, registration is on track.

So far, about 26,500 people have registered, which is within a couple hundred of what it was at this time last year, Dan Cruz, a spokesman for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series, said.

The series includes four races — a 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon — and will be from Nov. 12-13 with racers running on a shut-down Strip at night.

Currently, more than 16,000 people are signed up for the half marathon and almost 4,000 have signed up for the marathon.

In total, organizers are expecting more than 40,000 runners and one of the top-five largest weekends ever.

Event marketing manager Kevin LaRue said they already have representation from all 50 states and runners signed up from 76 different countries.

Those interested can register online. Currently, prices for the marathon are $157 and $147 for the half marathon, though those numbers will jump $10 on Aug. 2.

The weekend will kick off with a Health & Fitness Expo, which starts on Thursday. The 5K is will be on Nov. 12 with the other three races the next day.

As racers make their way through the Strip, there will be live music featuring local artists.

There will also be a free headliner concert for marathon and half marathon participants and their guests on Nov. 13 at the MGM Resorts Village.

Last year, Kid Rock headlined the event. A headliner has not yet been named, though organizers expect to have an announcement on that within the next 3-4 weeks.

DISC GOLF TOURNEY

Lee Canyon will host its fourth annual Birdies and Beer event on Saturday and organizers are encouraging beginner disc golf players to sign up.

Players can sample craft beers as they make their way down Lee Canyon’s disc golf course. Tee times begin at 8 a.m. and the beer garden will open at 11 a.m.
