Seattle tells Seahawks fans to delay video uploads

SEATTLE — The city of Seattle is asking thousands of Seahawks fans to delay uploading videos or sharing photos during Thursday’s season opener to ensure that 911 calls can get through.

A spokesman for Mayor Ed Murray tells KIRO-FM that football fans can help keep wireless networks clear by waiting to share videos or photos from their cellphones. Jeff Reading says with 20,000 expected to join the festivities, cellular networks struggle to keep up.

Networks were overwhelmed during the Seahawks Super Bowl parade as thousands exchanges photos, videos and text messages. City officials had asked the public to keep cellphone use to a minimum to keep lines free for emergency use.
