UNLV will open challenging 2016 non-conference baseball slate at Texas

The UNLV baseball team will open its 2016 season Feb. 19 with a three-game series at the University of Texas to kick off a challenging non-conference schedule that also includes road games at Cal State Fullerton and San Diego, home games against Ohio State, West Virginia and Texas Tech and a home-and-home series against Arizona State.

"We are excited to be playing some of the top programs in the country outside of our conference," Rebels acting head coach Stan Stolte said. "Opening up the first two weekends of the season against premier Big 12 programs will keep us motivated during the offseason. There isn't such a thing as an 'easy' non-conference opponent on the West Coast and this season we will embrace playing some elite teams."

After starting the season against the Longhorns, UNLV will open its home slate with a four-game series against West Virginia from Feb. 26 to 29 at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.

The Rebels will open Mountain West Conference play March 4 to 6 at home against San Jose State and will host Ohio State for four games March 11-13 and March 15.

UNLV will play a three-game series at San Diego State on April 8-10, single games at San Diego on April 11 and at Arizona State on April 19 and a three-game series at Cal State Fullerton on April 22-24. The Rebels also will host Arizona State on May 10 before closing out their regular-season slate at home with a three-game series vs. Fresno State on May 13-15.

The MW Tournament is scheduled from May 25-29 in Albuquerque, N.M.

UNLV will host Utah for an exhibition game Oct. 24 and an alumni game Nov. 7. Admission is free to both games.
