Dwayne Morgan expected to ask UNLV for his release

UNLV sophomore forward Dwayne Morgan will ask for his release to move closer to his Baltimore home, ESPN.com reported Wednesday.

The move apparently has caught UNLV by surprise. Those reached in the athletic department said they didn’t know of Morgan’s decision, and a Twitter message to him was not immediately returned. He did retweet the ESPN story.

UNLV never issued a release on the topic, which would have been standard procedure.

He even added to any confusion by tweeting “Born a Rebel” and “Bully Season still.”

Morgan started 22 games this season, averaging 5.5 points and 4.7 rebounds. He dislocated his right shoulder Feb. 20 and missed the rest of the season.

His mother reportedly has been dealing with health problems, a major reason for Morgan’s expected departure.
