New field set to usher in new era of UNLV football

They may play their home games near Henderson --  almost 8 miles away from campus --  but there will be no doubt what city they're representing when the UNLV Rebels take the field for their home opener against UCLA on September 12.

Sam Boyd Stadium is looking more like Sin City East with a new field design in place, as tweeted by UNLV football today.

The field prominently showcases the iconic "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign in each end zone and at the 50-yard-line markers. The other yard markers feature a diamond design heisted from the old Stardust Resort and Casino.

Since Coach Tony Sanchez took over, the team has embraced the city and all that comes with it. First it was the uniforms, then renderings of the Vegas-centric field were seen. Now, the field is a reality, just waiting to host the first home game of UNLV football's "New Era."
