UNLV football releases depth chart for season opener
UNLV's football team released its depth chart for Saturday's 4:30 p.m. PDT season opener at Northern Illinois.
Here's what stood out:
— The depth chart appears to show a 3-3-5 defensive alignment with one tackle listed and a starting nickelback. However, the tackle position will rotate players at two spots, keeping the base a 4-3. The nickelback also isn't necessarily a starting position, but the Rebels will play a good amount of 4-2-5 depending on the situation and the opponent.
— Sophomore Chris Lopez is listed first at right guard, and senior Eric Noone is atop the depth chart on the left side. Senior Ron Scoggins, who has started 24 career games, is the backup to Noone.
— Two newcomers will start for sure, junior college transfers Will Kreitler at center and Mark Finau at defensive end. Both players signed in December and went through spring drills. If UNLV opens in a 4-2-5, freshman Darius Mouton will start at nickelback.
