10-month-old mauled by family dog suffers facial injuries

BREMERTON, Wash. — A 10-month-old boy suffered severe facial injuries in an attack by a family dog Tuesday, Bremerton police said.

The boy’s mother was also injured.

The boy was playing with a broom in his room alone when the family’s dog — a medium-sized boxer mix — attacked. The mother quickly rushed into the room, Bremerton Police Chief Steve Strachan said, and was bit on the hand and arms when she intervened.

Both the boy and the mom were transported to Harrison Medical center in Bremerton with non life-threatening injuries.

However, the boy suffered substantial facial injuries and would likely require extensive surgery, Strachan said.

Information for this report was provided by KCPQ.
