American Patriot Solar helps homeowners get federal tax credits

For Southern Nevada homeowners interested in solar-power systems but unsure of their ability to receive local and federal incentives, Ram Chandran has some advice. “It is easier than you think.”

The local real estate professional purchased an American Patriot Solar energy system for his home in Anthem and received nearly $10,000 in federal tax credits.

“I bought my system with 36 panels a few years ago, then added seven more panels to receive almost the maximum benefit from the federal government,” Chandran said. “You can receive 30 percent of the net cost of your system in tax credits. But you have to purchase the system, not lease it.”

The residential renewable energy tax credit is available to homeowners who buy solar-power systems for homes in the United States in which they own and reside. There is no limit to the amount of the rebate, which was previously $10,000.

Homeowners can take their federal tax credit in one year or over two years. To qualify for a credit this year, homeowners must buy a solar-power system that is placed in service by Dec. 31.

“We are working with several homeowners that want to apply the federal tax credit for this year, so we are working with them to ensure their new solar systems are in operation by the end of December,” American Patriot Solar Chief Operating Officer Andrea Vigil said. “Our average time from purchase to installation is three weeks, so we encourage interested homeowners to schedule their new system installation within the next two months to ensure plenty of time for you to have the system up and running by the end of the year.”

Chandran also received a local rebate from NV Energy and has taken advantage of AP Solar’s referral program.

AP Solar works with its customers to apply for available local and federal rebates and incentives. Its installation company, U.S. Renewable Energy Development, handles permitting and installation.

Vigil said homeowners can get $500 for every new customer they refer.
