A 13-year-old boy killed his 6-year-old brother and wounded an older sibling in Florida after a disagreement over food before committing suicide with the same gun, authorities said.
The shooting happened Wednesday at a mobile home in Hudson that the shooter shared with his brothers and mother.
Another son, 18, was not home at the time of the shooting, according to CNN.
“This is a nightmare when you hear about the ages of these boys,” said Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco. “A 6-year-old that was probably playing in his room, an argument over food, and he lost his life.”
The sheriff’s office did not clarify what transpired, but said they were eating dinner when an argument broke out over food.
The 13-year-old then got a handgun and shot and killed his 6-year-old brother, shot his 16-year-old brother, then turned the gun on himself, according to WFTS.
Due to the horrific nature of the scene, a crisis intervention team was called for the responding deputies, WFTS reports.
The older sibling, 16, remains in the hospital with a nonlife-threatening injury.
Officials didn’t release names and said it was unclear whose gun was used.
