Cruz plans town hall in Las Vegas on Thursday

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz will be in Las Vegas on Thursday.

Cruz, a U.S. senator from Texas, will have a one-hour town hall that starts at 6 p.m. The event is at Mountain Shadows Community Center, 9107 Del Webb Blvd. Doors will open at 5 p.m..

Nevada is an early voting state, with February caucuses that play a key role in determining which candidates get the Republican and Democratic party nominations for president.

About a dozen Republican candidates are running for president. Billionaire businessman Donald Trump, and, more recently, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson have led most polls of Republican voters.

The Democratic side is less crowded, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has led the Democratic candidates, followed by U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont.
