PICK OF THE WEEK:

808 TAPAS

Village Square, 9350 W. Sahara Ave. at South Fort Apache Road, 702-485-3433

It is well known that Hawaiians love Las Vegas and vice versa. Hawaii's area code is 808, and this restaurant reflects the state with such tasty rolls as Waikiki, Victorino, Chun's Reef (spicy albacore, Cajun albacore, cucumber, mango sauce), Sunset, Yokohama, Da Cali made with snow crab, avocado and cucumber, and the 808 Special with spicy soft-shell crab and spicy tuna. Popular salads are crab stack, tempura rock shrimp and poke (marinated ahi tuna). The asari miso soup has manila clams and green onions, while a popular skewer is pork belly. Among the hot tapas are stewed or tempura mussels, 808 wings in sesame marinade, Honolulu shrimp rolls, shrimp curry, lamb pops and fried agedashi tofu with mushrooms, ginger and scallions. Cold tapas include yellowtail jalapeno, salmon carpaccio, squid pasta and beef tataki made with Wagyu beef, grated radish and green onions. Enjoy Hawaiian Kona coffee (hot or cold) with an apple and banana fritter topped with vanilla ice cream. Happy Hour (half off on sushi) is from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday. Rolls start at $7 and salads at $4.50. 808 Tapas is open from noon to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday and noon to midnight Friday and Saturday. - Jack Bulavsky
