Dining Pick of the Week: Aurelio’s Pizza

Aurelio’s Pizza

445 W. Craig Road at Commerce Street; 702-399-3131

There’s no reason to argue about pizza because for most of us, all pizza is good. However, Chicago pizza stands out from the rest, and Aurelio’s owner/chef Jorge Gonzales is doing it right at this Chicago namesake. Aurelio’s has thin-crust, thick-crust and stuffed pies with all the traditional toppings ranging in size from 6-inch to 18-inch. Specialty pies include spinach, chicken and Super Six with cheese, sausage, green peppers, ham, pepperoni and mushrooms. An alternative is the Calabrese, which is Aurelio’s famous hand-closed crust stuffed with mozzarella and meats or vegetables. Among the appetizers are Tomato Bread (sliced tomatoes on garlic bread with cheese), toasted ravioli, hot wings, Caesar salad and Aurelio’s antipasto salad with ham, mozzarella, pepperoni, green and black olives, sweet red peppers and pepperoncini. Featured sandwiches are homemade Italian meatball in red sauce, Italian sausage, chicken Parmesan, Italian beef and Italian submarine with imported ham, salami and beef with mozzarella, shredded lettuce and house dressing. Pasta entrees include spaghetti, mostaccioli, fettuccine, cheese ravioli and jumbo tortellini. An all-you-can-eat salad and pizza bar is $6.99 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Sandwiches start at $8.95. Aurelio’s Pizza is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
