Taverns don't always put a lot of effort into their cafés, but Brentwood does. Saturday is Family Day, the patio is doggie friendly, and who can say no to Taco Tuesday? Create your own omelet with avocado, yellow squash, green onion, bacon, turkey breast, sun-dried tomatoes and goat cheese. There are pancakes, French toast, eggs Benedict and egg platters with New York or ham steak, hamburger patty or grilled chicken breast. Popular sandwiches are patty melt, grilled veggie, curried chicken salad, French dip, half-pound hamburger and The California with turkey, sautéed mushrooms, avocado and mozzarella on garlic sourdough. Among the entrees are meatloaf with mashed potatoes, salmon in dill caper sauce, fish and chips, spaghetti marinara, pasta Alfredo, shrimp scampi and grilled chicken breast in lemon and herb white wine sauce. There are pizzas, appetizers and large salads such as Tenaya spinach, Oriental chicken, seared sesame ahi and The Tavern with mixed greens, grilled asparagus, candied walnuts, tomatoes, dried cranberries, mandarin oranges, grapes and goat cheese.
