PICK OF THE WEEK:
EL CHARRO TACO SHOP
5670 N. Simmons St. at West Ann Road, 702-405-6566
All tacos are not created equal, but El Charro has elevated them to the top. In fact, the very first menu item is two chicken tacos with rice and beans. The second is two asada tacos made with flank or skirt steak. And so it goes. There are beef or chicken rolled tacos served with guacamole, fried tacos and tacos with an assortment of fillings, including fish, pork and tongue. Popular combination plates are chile relleno with cheese enchilada, chorizo plate, beef burrito with cheese enchilada, huevos a la Mexicana, beef taco with cheese enchilada (my favorite), chicken or beef nachos with fries, huevos rancheros, two enchiladas with rice and beans, and carne asada plate. There are a la carte enchiladas, chimichangas, quesadillas, tostadas and tortas (sandwiches) made with chicken, beef, chorizo, tongue, ham or pork. Among the burritos are machaca (shredded beef), chorizo, beef, bean and cheese, breakfast, California, fish and adobada, which is pork that has been marinated in red chili sauce. Menudo is served every Saturday and Sunday. Two chicken tacos with rice and beans start at $4.99, and burritos begin at $2.35. El Charro is open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
