PICK OF THE WEEK:
KAN PAI SUSHI
8125 W. Sahara Ave. at South Cimarron Road, 242-6012
If you want your favorite sushi restaurant to be contemporary with a menu that runs the gamut from appetizers to dessert, Kan Pai welcomes you. Great appetizers are lettuce wraps, steamed dumplings with shrimp, yaki (butter-grilled scallop with bacon) and agedash tofu in light broth with scallions and daikon radish. Entrees include Chilean seabass with prawns, Japanese-Hawaiian black Angus rib-eye steak with Maui salsa, tempura dinner with shrimp, scallops and vegetables, Korean-style short ribs (kalbi), beef, chicken or salmon teriyaki and the 14-piece sashimi dinner with California roll or spicy tuna roll. There are the chef's special sashimi (Hawaiian poki, halibut, kiwi salmon, yellowtail jalapeno) and special rolls such as Crazy Eel. There are soups (miso, udon), salads (octopus, sashimi) and baked rolls including Encore, Japanese Lasagna, Oh My Goodness and Touchdown. The dessert menu is impressive, with mochi or tempura ice cream, chocolate souffle, New York cheesecake and Exotic Bomba, where mango, passion fruit and raspberry sorbet are covered in white chocolate. Appetizers start at $4 and entrees at $15. Kan Pai is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday. - Jack Bulavsky
