The ninth annual U.S. Marine Corps Golf Classic Toys for Tots golf tournament this past week at Nellis Air Force Base Vista Golf Course drew a capacity field while generating hundreds of toys for needy children who might otherwise go without during the holiday season.
Played on a glorious day that also featured a bonus of overhead air shows compliments of Aviation Nation, the event included sponsorship from Findlay Acura for the second consecutive year.
“We had an absolute blast,” said Jim Donohue, operations director for Findlay Acura in the Valley Automall. “Our team included Chris Maathuis and Dan Schwarz of KLAS TV-8 and it definitely was an experience that we will all remember for a long time. We will be there to lend our support any time.”
The tournament drew 144 players, selling out for the second straight year. The event raised $30,000 in 2009 and Toys for Tots Golf Chairman Tom McGrath said the amount raised this year should surpass the total from last year.
“This is one of the best charity golf tournaments in Nevada,” said McGrath, who has been running the event for nine years. “Everything that we do is for the children of Las Vegas.
“I’m so happy that Findlay Acura has once again supported the Toys for Tots golf tournament.”
Findlay Acura displayed a 2010 TSX on the 180-yard third hole. It was offered as a grand prize for anyone hitting a hole-in-one. The prize went unclaimed.
The Toys for Tots holiday giving continues with another golf tournament at Mojave Resort Golf Club in Laughlin Dec. 4 beginning at 8 a.m.
